I Think that you Fail to See the Point

Let me be the first to say that I enjoy reading your columns. I think what you bring to the table is something that a lot of people dont hear all that often.

Let me also be the first to say that I am by no stretch of the imagination a racist. Rather, I base my opinion of people on their personal attributes rather than physical attributes. Except Belgians. Man I hate those guys.

That being said, I think that your blog today fails to get the point. I dont understand why being in the wrong place at the wrong time is an excuse for getting dragged out of a car and pummeled by a rowdy mob. I dont understand why swinging so hard at a police officer that you break his face shield is an excuse to
once "again ruin the public image of a successful Juneteenth Day."

Unfortunatly, that is what it sounds like when you say

Most years, anyone who goes to Juneteenth Day knows it is largely a positive event. But they also know in the last half-hour or so, you have to be on watch for the knuckleheads who don't understand how to just have their fun and go home.

So I should know that there is a threat of violence if I stay until the end of a festival? To me, that is like saying "I know that I will be hit by a bus today, so I am not going to leave the house." Thats like saying that "I know I shouldnt be out until bar time, because I know I will be shot at."

I understand that "a few bad apples managed once again to ruin the public image of a successful Juneteenth Day." I am grown up enough to know that there are exceptions to every rule, and those exceptions can destroy anything positive. I'll ask you this.....Did you read the article that you linked to in your blog? Did you happen to miss

"police in riot gear were called in at the end of last year's Juneteenth festival to break up a disturbance involving a group of people who tore down a tent and used its poles to beat each other."
Or this
"in 2002 a group of people at the festival...... began throwing sticks and bottles at uniformed officers."

Those "knuckleheads" are at a lot of places at once man.

Once again, I am old enough to realize that this should in no way tarnish my opinions. But making excuses like being in the wrong place at the wrong time is unbelievable.

Also once again, I am not going to stop reading your column for the reasons that I already mentioned. But think about what you write, and how people will digest it.

UPDATE:

Milwaukee police are seeking an 18-year-old man they say fired five gunshots into a group, striking a 39-year-old man.

The victim was wounded in the right shoulder during the shooting about 2:10 p.m. Tuesday in the 3000 block of N. 1st St., police said. He was treated at Froedtert Hospital and released.

The shooting followed a fight between three females in which the victim's nephew, 15, intervened.

The 15-year-old and the 18-year-old then became involved in a fight. The 18-year-old left and returned with a gun, police said.

Same day, same event.....Come on now???!!! What kind of an excuse can you make?
